RCPH & Aluminia
Nils Johan Thorvald Thorsson(1898 – 1975) was Royal Copenhagen’s most prolific designer of his time. Working for Royal Copenhagen from 1912 as an apprentice, he went onto become artistic director of Aluminia from 1928-1969 and Royal Copenhagen from 1949-1975. He is credited with the production of 4 ranges of Fajance earthenware throughout his career, with the display here before you all from the Tenera (1960+) and Baca (1969+) ranges. These ranges remain as some of the most popular Royal Copenhagen has ever produced, and are shining examples of mid-century modernist design. Most items displayed are designed by Nils, with a select few from Johanne Gerber, Ivan Weiss, Ellen Malmer & Kari Kristiansen.
